AESSEAL® rallies students to combat global warming. Sustainability will be a key message at Get Up to Speed the Virtual Experience.
‘Let’s work together to combat climate change’ will be the key message from Rotherham-based mechanical seal manufacturer AESSEAL® at Get Up to Speed (GUTS) the Virtual Experience this month.
Students from across South Yorkshire took part in the interactive GUTS with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) event, from March 22nd – 26th.
They were able to join a live presentation on the theme of sustainability on Wednesday, March 24th, led by former AESSEAL® apprentice Ava Jones, who is now Business Assurance Officer with the company’s Sustainability Team.
Ava, 20, will describe the steps AESSEAL® took to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in its UK operations last year and how it plans to achieve global net-zero by 2029.
She will also encourage students to embark on their own ‘net-zero’ journey and explain how simple actions such as turning down your heating can help lower greenhouse gases and protect the planet.
Ava was joined at GUTS the Virtual Experience by AESSEAL® Managing Director Chris Rea and Engineering Director Stephen Shaw.
Chris Rea delivered a keynote speech following Ava’s presentation and at the virtual business breakfast on Friday, March 26th, explaining the company’s Betterworld.Solutions campaign and how business leaders can help protect the environment without impacting profits. Stephen Shaw joined a panel of industry leaders to discuss how businesses are adapting to meet the future challenges faced by industry.
AESSEAL® is a partner of The Work-Wise Foundation, organizer of GUTS the Virtual Experience, and has donated an additional £14,000 to help Work-Wise create the online platform for the event, which in previous years was held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.
David Amory, Global Marketing Manager said:
Sustainability is at the heart of AESSEAL® business practices and the products we design and manufacture. We know that many young people are as committed to these principles as we are. We hope to show students attending GUTS that a career in engineering can provide opportunities to become part of the solution to global warming and help protect the planet for all our futures. We hope that business leaders in the region will also benefit from our shared experience of achieving net-zero so we can work together across all industries to mitigate negative impact on the environment.
