Q and A

By Oliver Crank

What was the problem you were asked to address?

The labyrinth type bearing seal on one of the company’s pumps was failing every couple of weeks. It was costly and inconvenient constantly having to remove the pump to replace the seal. As well as that, oil would spray from the pump, which was potentially dangerous for anybody working close by. The pump OEM couldn’t solve the problem, so the company asked AESSEAL® if we could help. We had a good relationship with them from work we had already done, so they knew they could rely on us.

You recommended replacing the existing labyrinth seals with the LabTecta® AX. How did that go?

Like clockwork. We manufactured a new seal and modified the seal housing on the pump so that it would accept the LabTecta® AX. All the due diligence had been done beforehand. The measuring, the general arrangement drawing had been checked against the equipment and everything went exactly to plan. The seal was installed in May 2021 and is still running without any issues. The customer is so happy with the performance they ordered an additional three seals to convert the remaining pumps.

What would you say distinguishes AESSEAL® from its competitors, apart from the quality of its products?

Prompt service with very quick lead times. Also, excellent technical support and customer service. We have a reputation with our customers for always being ready to roll up our sleeves and help. We also keep in contact with them, and regularly visit their sites to carry out visual checks wherever our equipment has been installed.

You say that the product has been working well since the installation. Has this resulted in further work with the company?

We were able to resolve a problem that had plagued them for a long time, so that has made what was already a very good relationship even better. We do a lot of work for them now, including on-site technical support, mechanical seal upgrades and repairs, as well as bearing protection. They have a lot of confidence in the quality and reliability of our products and they know that whenever they need us, we will be there for them.
